One of Us Is Lying
is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.

Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?

Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

I wasn’t expecting to like this book as much as I did but I’m very happy with how good it turned out to be. This book was marketed as The Breakfast Club but with murder and who could say no to that line? I nearly did put this book down though at one point because it just took a while to get back into the contemporary setting since I’ve been reading so many fantasy lately but never the less I had a great time with this story. The characters were all so different and it was easy to love each of them for their own flaws. There are a couple romances here that I really enjoyed but I won’t say between who because the developments of those relationships are some of the best parts. Speaking of developments, the amount of character development with every single one of the main four was fantastically done and I loved watching them grow just over the few months this book is set.

The whole mystery in my opinion was a bit predictable but enjoyable none the less! It reminded me a lot of the Scream TV series which I’m a huge fan. I’m just a sucker for High School mysteries okay?! I definitely recommend this for anyone whose really into High School contemporaries but with a dark twist.

“I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to admit that sometimes they’re just assholes who screw up because they don’t expect to get caught.”

“Things’ll get worse before they get better.”
